Fireboy DML advocates for enhanced infrastructure to support Afrobeats and calls for the development of arenas in Lagos.

Renowned Afrobeats artist, Adedamola Adefolahan, popularly known as Fireboy DML, has brought attention to the critical necessity of domestic infrastructure to sustain the global triumph of Afrobeats.

In a recent conversation with Cool FM’s Do2tun on Tuesday, December 11, the talented singer expressed concern about the inadequate infrastructure in Nigeria, raising questions about when international fans would have the opportunity to witness live performances within the country.

Fireboy emphasized the significance of establishing a world-class arena in a city like Lagos to foster global connections. Sharing his perspective, he commented, “Everyone is talking about ‘Afrobeats to the world.’ The music is impeccable. But there is a lack of structure. Foreign fans are listening [to our music], but when will they come to Lagos and experience our live performances? When will we have state-of-the-art arenas in Lagos where we can gather people from all corners of the world? You know, it [the infrastructure] would make everything much smoother.”

During the interview, Fireboy openly discussed the challenges he encounters as an entertainer. While expressing his passion for his craft and the inspiration it provides, he acknowledged his reluctance towards the extensive hours of flying, traveling, and socializing inherent in the life of an artist.

“I love what I do, but I don’t like the process. I love that my work takes me places, but the process of traveling? No. I don’t even like going out and interacting with people that much. So having to submit my passport and all those things don’t appeal to me,” shared the ‘Peru’ hitmaker.
