Davido extends his congratulations to Tyla for her Grammy victory

The King of Afrobeat, Davido, has responded to Tyla’s triumph at the 66th Grammy Awards!

Tyla, a South African artist, attained a significant milestone by securing the inaugural Best African Music Performance award at the 2024 Grammy Awards. This groundbreaking victory not only crowns Tyla as the youngest and first South African recipient of the accolade but also marks her debut Grammy nomination.

Competing against formidable contenders like Burna Boy, Davido himself, Musa Keys, Ayra Star, Olamide, and Asake, Tyla emerged victorious with her acclaimed track “Water” at the 66th edition of the awards. The announcement of her win elicited a spectrum of reactions on social media, ranging from surprise to celebration. Nevertheless, amidst the diverse responses, numerous messages of congratulations and well-wishes flooded in for the superstar, recognizing her remarkable feat.

Davido, who received three nominations at the 66th Grammy Awards, took to social media to extend his congratulations to Tyla. He wrote, “Congratulations on your win @Tyllaaaaaaa! Big One for Africa! Keep soaring!”

During Tyla’s acceptance of the Best African Music Performance Award with Water by Fela Anikulapo Kuti playing in the background she said, “I never thought I’d say I won a GRAMMY at 22 years old. Thank you so much to God, my team, my family. Thank you to the recording academy for this category”.
