🎤 Fireboy DML Advocates for Improved Infrastructure in Nigerian Music Industry
Nigerian Afrobeats star, Fireboy DML, has issued a passionate call for the development of world-class music arenas in Lagos, emphasizing the urgent need for better infrastructure to sustain Afrobeats’ international success.
During an exclusive interview with Cool FM’s Do2tun on Tuesday, December 11, the “Peru” crooner expressed concern about Nigeria’s limited entertainment infrastructure. While Afrobeats continues to dominate global music charts, Fireboy questioned when fans abroad would finally have the opportunity to enjoy immersive, high-quality live concerts in Nigeria.
🚧 “We Need Structure” – Fireboy DML Urges
“Everyone is talking about ‘Afrobeats to the world.’ The music is impeccable. But there is a lack of structure,”
said Fireboy.
“Foreign fans are listening [to our music], but when will they come to Lagos and experience our live performances? When will we have state-of-the-art arenas in Lagos where we can gather people from all corners of the world? You know, it would make everything much smoother.”
His remarks highlight a growing sentiment among Nigerian artists that Afrobeats needs physical platforms—like major concert venues, event halls, and music arenas—to cement its global status and provide fans with authentic in-country experiences.
✈️ Fireboy Shares Personal Struggles with Artist Lifestyle
Aside from infrastructure concerns, Fireboy also opened up about the personal sacrifices of life on the road as an international artist.
“I love what I do, but I don’t like the process,”
the YBNL-signed artist confessed.
“I love that my work takes me places, but the process of traveling? No. I don’t even like going out and interacting with people that much. So having to submit my passport and all those things don’t appeal to me.”
Despite his growing fame and global tour appearances, Fireboy admits that the behind-the-scenes lifestyle of fame isn’t always glamorous.
🌍 The Bigger Picture: Afrobeats Needs More Than Just Global Streams
Fireboy’s statements echo a growing call within the music industry: Africa needs to build physical infrastructure to match its digital reach. With the Afrobeats genre making waves on platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, and Billboard, the lack of top-tier venues, logistics, and local support systems remains a pressing issue.
📌 Why This Matters
- Global fans want local experiences: More listeners abroad are eager to experience Nigeria’s music scene up close.
- Home-grown talent needs proper platforms: Without arenas and venues, major artists rely on international tours to connect with audiences.
- Infrastructure will drive tourism and culture: Building such arenas can boost the local economy, promote Lagos as a music hub, and improve the overall entertainment ecosystem.
