Mr Eazi Dance Group – Choplife Sound System Releases Debut Album Chop Life Vol. 1 Mzansi Chronicles
Mr Eazi dance group, “Choplife Sound System,” has made a significant debut with their album titled “Chop Life Vol. 1: Mzansi Chronicles.”
This rising musical group, ‘ChopLife Sound System,’ introduced themselves earlier this year with the Amapiano-infused single “Wena,” featuring the lead vocals of South African singer Ami Faku. Following the release of the album, which is heavily influenced by South African sounds, particularly Amapiano, the dance group, led by DJ Edu and Mr Eazi, is determined to elevate Afro Sounds to new heights.
The name ‘ChopLife Sound System’ is inspired by a West African Pidgin expression that translates to ‘enjoy life,’ as well as the rhythmic and sound system culture of Jamaican music. The group aims to adapt and incorporate Jamaican sound systems into the African music scene, taking inspiration from the likes of Major Lazer.
Their debut album, “Choplife Vol 1 – Mzansi Chronicles,” marks the beginning of their music series that is set to make waves in the African music scene. The album features fourteen tracks recorded between Cape Town and Johannesburg in South Africa, immersing listeners in the top-notch music produced by the South African club scene.
The album includes collaborations with notable artists such as Vocalist & Anaati on “By Force,” Ami Faku, Moonchild Sanelly, Major League DJs, Mellow and Sleazy, Nkosazana Daughter, 2woshort & Stompiiey, and Mo-T & Aymos on “Ziwa La.” The fusion of these talents and the incorporation of diverse sounds create a captivating musical experience that showcases the vibrancy of African music.
With “Chop Life Vol. 1: Mzansi Chronicles,” Choplife Sound System is making a bold statement in the music industry, promising to captivate audiences and make a significant impact on the African music landscape.
The recent mixtape series features notable contributions from various African beatmakers and musicians, creating a rich and diverse musical landscape. Mozambique’s DJ Tarico, known for his hit “Yaba Buluku” featuring Burna Boy, as well as beatmakers Milan Rendall Mellow & Sleazy, Ghetto Boy, LuuDaDeejay, Soul Jam, and Mathondos from South Africa, along with Type A from Nigeria, have all lent their talents to this project. The result is an Afrocentric yet cross-cultural bonding of sounds that positions the mixtape for a wider reception among fans of African music. Mr Eazi emphasizes, “This is not just a side project; this is a serious project.”
While Amapiano, a vibrant South African house music style, dominates this recent mixtape series, future installments are planned to encompass a broader range of styles within African club and party music. Mr Eazi explains his creative approach, stating, “I like the idea of going to a new place for 30 days and making a project.”
To celebrate this musical endeavor, Mr Eazi and the Choplife Sound System dance group will embark on a pop-up tour this summer, with performances scheduled in Barcelona (July 7), Amsterdam (July 8), London (July 14), and Paris (July 16). The tour will further continue with appearances at the Berlin Afrobeats Festival (August 5) and Stockholm’s Kulturfestival (August 18).
For those seeking an amazing feel-good album to enhance their playlist, “VOL1: Mzansi Chronicles” is a must-add. The mixtape promises a dynamic fusion of sounds and a vibrant atmosphere that invites listeners to turn up, vibe, and groove along with this new rising musical team on the horizon.1
